Packing Guide

  1. Make a master list of all household items and your belongings.

  2. Put all boxes in your Garage or on the Main Floor.

  3. Number your boxes when they have been packed and sealed.

  4. Clearly indicate on the box its room destination.

  5. Write on the master list the contents of the numbered boxes.

  6. Take all nobs off dressers, China Cabinets, etc..

  7. All pictures and glass should be wrapped in bubble wrap or cardboard.

  8. All appliances need to be disconnected and ready to go, with cords wrapped up.

  9. All boxes should be taped closed at the top and bottom.

  10. Have no loose items in boxes.

  11. Try to have your boxes uniform in size.

  12. No box should weigh over 25 lbs.

  13. Propane tanks should be removed from your barbeque.

  14. Rakes, shovels and brroms should be taped together.

  15. All shelves should be removed from cabinets.

  16. Clothes can stay in dressers

  17. Separate items with paper to prevent scratches caused by rubbing during transit.

  18. If you're moving to or from a new home proper sidewalks and permanent stairs must be in place.

  19. Pack rugs last so they can be the first items unloaded and placed at your new location.

  20. Make a box of essentials and label it "Open Me First."  Put this box to the side to be loaded last (so it's unloaded first) or take it yourself. Your "Open Me First" box will include:

    • Basic tools such as flashlights, pocket knife, hammer, screwdrivers, nails, masking tape, tape measure, and light bulbs.

    • Bathroom essentials such as hand towel, soap, toilet paper, shampoo, and shower curtains.

    • Kitchen goodies such as paper towels, coffeemaker and filters, paper plates and cups, plastic utensils, dish detergent, a sponge, pet foods, dishes, and trash bags.

  21. Use towels, linens, curtains, etc. to pad boxes of fragile items.

  22. Clearly mark these boxes "FRAGILE."

  23. Reinforce the bottom of boxes with at least one strip of packing tape.
